PRODUCT DESIGN: THE INFANCY OF AN IDEA!
Fundamental to the introduction of products or properties to the marketplace is the Product Design process. The idea for a new product or the improvement of an existing product may simply be just that – an idea. The idea may have evolved from the need to solve a problem or to make something perform better.
Before disclosure of a concept, a Non-Disclosure and Confidentiality Agreement (commonly referred to as an “NDA” and/or a “CONFY”) is required. It is also critical to discussions relating to issues concerning Intellectual Property.
Following these legal safeguards, the idea is visualized and described in a rough, informal sketch format(s) demonstrating its intended function. Simple drawings and/or sketches to provide a visual representation of the concept from which to advance are thus the logical first phase in the Product Design process. These drawings are supplemented by a written description of the concept and how it functions.
